As a Colorado wedding photographer, I love weddings that feel personal from beginning to end—and Sarah and Ryan’s September 10th wedding at Hearth House Venue in Monument, Colorado was exactly that. From a beautiful modern barn surrounded by green grass and mountain views to an emotional first touch, a meaningful knot ceremony, and sunset portraits by the lake, their wedding day was filled with moments that celebrated not only their love, but the family they were creating together.

Sarah and her girls got ready in the venue’s adorable cottage while Ryan and the guys had their own dedicated groom’s suite. Having separate spaces for each side of the wedding party made the morning relaxed and allowed everyone to enjoy those special getting-ready moments together.
One of my favorite details from the morning was a custom chalkboard featuring Sarah and Ryan’s new last name. Little personalized details like this are what make wedding days feel so uniquely yours—and they also make for fun detail photos to look back on for years to come.

Rather than seeing each other before the ceremony, Sarah and Ryan chose to have a first touch. Standing on opposite sides of a gate, they held hands without seeing one another and privately exchanged their vows.
It was an incredibly emotional moment. As they read their vows to each other, both Sarah and Ryan became overwhelmed with emotion and tears. There was something so intimate about being able to share such personal words privately before standing in front of all their friends and family.
Their daughter was a huge part of the wedding day and was included in practically every aspect of the celebration. She served as the flower girl, but her role went far beyond simply walking down the aisle.
One of the sweetest moments was seeing her share special dances with both Sarah and Ryan. Having separate dances with them was such a beautiful way to recognize the unique relationship she shares with each of them—and the new family they were becoming together.

Sarah and Ryan incorporated a meaningful knot ceremony into their wedding. Using three strands, they braided them together as a symbol of their lives becoming intertwined.
The three strands represented the strength that comes from joining their lives together, while also recognizing that their marriage was becoming part of something bigger than just the two of them. The symbolism of creating a family together felt especially fitting.

After the ceremony, we headed to a nearby trailhead for wedding party portraits and romantic photos of Sarah and Ryan. Getting away from the venue gave us the chance to explore a little of the surrounding Colorado landscape and incorporate the natural beauty of Monument into their wedding gallery.
As a Colorado wedding photographer, I absolutely love when couples are willing to adventure beyond their venue for portraits. A short drive can open up completely different scenery and give your wedding photos a sense of place that feels unmistakably Colorado.

For the final portraits of the evening, we headed to a nearby lake to catch the sunset. The mountains, water, and evening light created an incredible backdrop for Sarah and Ryan to slow down and enjoy a few quiet moments together after the excitement of the day.
There is something about photographing couples during golden hour that never gets old. After a full wedding day, everything seems to slow down, and it gives couples a chance to simply be together while we capture some of those romantic, peaceful images.

Sarah and Ryan’s wedding was a beautiful celebration of their love, but it was also a celebration of family. Their day was filled with genuine emotion, meaningful traditions, playful moments, and beautiful Colorado scenery. It was the perfect reminder that the most memorable weddings aren’t necessarily about following every tradition—they’re about choosing the traditions and moments that actually mean something to you.
Congratulations, Sarah and Ryan! Your wedding day at Hearth House Venue was absolutely beautiful, and I’m so grateful I got to capture these memories for you. From those tearful private vows to mountain trails, lake sunsets, and all the special moments with your daughter, your gallery tells the story of the beginning of such a beautiful new chapter.
